CALLUM JOINS LIST OF AUSSIE BORN CRICKETERS TO PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP CRICKET FOR COUNTY

callum ferguson has become the 26th australian born cricketer to play for worcestershire ccc in the specsavers county championship.

ferguson is the 517th player to have achieved that honour for the county.

the 33-year-old was awarded his cap by the coaching staff ahead of his championship debut against lancashire at emirates old trafford yesterday.

he follows in the footsteps of riki wessels – also australian born – hamish rutherford and josh dell in joining those ranks this summer.

ferguson joins the list of distinguished australians who have played for worcestershire, many of them this century.

steve smith and nathan lyon are part of the australian squad named for the 2019 world cup.

travis head, who played for the county last summer, will be returning to New Road on june 25 as part of the australia ‘a’ squad.

a 50 over contest will take place between worcestershire and the tourists on that date.

the 25 australian born players to play championship cricket for worcestershire – and their cap numbers – are:
