Chairman’s Tribute To David Exall Contribution As He Celebrates 80Th Birthday

Worcestershire CCC Chairman Stephen Taylor has praised the contribution made to the club over many years by David Exall who recently celebrated his 80th birthday.

Worcester-born Exall watched his first game at New Road as an eight-year-old in May 1946 – the first after the Second World War against India.

It was the start of a love affair with the County which David has never relinquished even in his times working away from the city including spells as commercial manager of Birmingham City and promotions manager at Everton.

David had an 18 month spell as Worcestershire CCC’s first commercial manager from 1984 and then in 1986 became a committee member – a role he would hold for 20 years.

For the past 30 years David has played a significant role in most of the rule changes implemented at New Road.
David’s contribution to the County was recognised when he was made a Vice President of the club.

Stephen Taylor said: “Congratulations to David on his 80th birthday but also congratulations for the fantastic contribution he has made to the club during the past 30 years.

“As commercial manager, committee member for 20 years, or playing a major role in any rule changes, he has been first class and so professional with the way he goes about things.

“A big thank you to him for all his efforts.”

*The Worcestershire CCC website will be looking back at David’s varied and fascinating career in cricket, football, local government and the housing sector in a forthcoming feature.
