Charlie Morris – My Sporting Hero

During the winter months the Worcestershire CCC players and staff have been revealing who is their ‘Sporting Hero.’

Here County paceman Charlie Morris – happily back to full fitness after a side strain – tells of his admiration for South African quick bowler Dale Steyn.

The 34-year-old has taken 419 wickets in just 86 Tests and been a key member of the Proteas attack for the past decade before encountering recent injury problems.

Morris relishes watching him bowl and even listens to interviews of Steyn talking about cricket on the internet as a way of picking up tips from one of the cricketing greats.

He said: “My cricketing hero would be Dale Steyn. I love seeing him bowl. The skills he has and bowling as quick as he does, at 90mph, is incredible.

“Look as his record. He averages something like 20 with the ball and five wickets a match over many years.

“It’s also his passion, his aggression, on the pitch which is amazing.

“But when you see him being interviewed, he is so humble and down to earth and genuine.

“He would be my cricketing hero – more recently, the last six to eight years. He has been on fire since then.”

Morris added: “There are some really good interviews on the internet of him talking about cricket.

“I would definitely recommend to any youngsters to listen to them.

“It is such an easy way to listen to some of the best players in the world. You can pick up some really good tips.”
