Clarke Finishes On High Note As South Perth Claim First Innings Points

Joe Clarke ended his spell with South Perth CC on a high note as his side claimed first innings points on the second day of the Western Australian Cricket Association first grade clash away to Bayswater-Morley today (Sunday).

South Perth had scored 238 all out yesterday on the opening day, with Clarke contributing 12 to move pass 500 runs for the winter, and Bayswater closed on 11-1 from four overs.

The Worcestershire wicket-keeper batsman collected one catch as Bayswater-Morley were dismissed for 100 in their first innings in 51.1 overs.

South Perth enforced the follow on in the hope of securing an outright victory and their opponents were 72-4 at one stage.

But they suffered no further setbacks and closed on 101-4.

Clarke – along with Joe Leach and Ed Barnard – will now return to New Road but it will be for only a brief spell before the county fly out to Abu Dhabi on March 4 for their pre-season tour.

Ross Whiteley's side, Prospect CC, went down by eight wickets after an action packed final day of their South Australian Cricket Assocation grade 'A' clash with home side West Torrens which produced 474 runs.

West Torrens resumed on 123-8 in reply to Prospect's 126 and secured a first innings advantage of 32 before declaring on 158-8.

Whiteley opened in Prospect's second innings and scored 39 off 70 balls with one six and five fours.

He shared an opening stand of 60 with HP Brynes Howe and Prospect batted on until they reached 235-6 before declaring.

That left West Torrens just 25 overs to chase down 204 but they won by eight wickets and reached their target with three balls to spare. Whiteley bowled nine overs for 74 runs.

*We will be featuring the winter performances of Joe and Ross and all the other county players who have performed with distinction Down Under on the Worcestershire CCC website in the next few days.
