Clarke Rewrites Record Books For Seconds At Kidderminster

Joe Clarke rewrote the record books for Worcestershire Seconds on the second day of the Second Eleven Championship clash with MCC Young Cricketers at Kidderminster.

The England Under-19 wicket-keeper moved his score from 206 overnight to 222 before he was caught in the covers by Matt Renshaw off Mohammed Abid.

It meant he became the highest individual scorer for Worcestershire in Second Eleven Championship cricket, overtaking the 221 by Kadeer Ali against Somerset on the same ground in 2004.

Clarke faced a total of 324 balls and hit six sixes and 24 fours.

Richard Oliver scored 292 not out for the Seconds against Warwickshire at Barnt Green earlier in the season but that was in a four-day friendly.

Worcestershire added 70 runs in 13.5 overs to their overnight 388-5 before declaring on 458-9.

George Rhodes hit 28 before being caught at fine leg reverse sweeping of Abid immediately before skipper Gareth Andrew declared.

The MCC openers Renshaw (66) and Matt Piesley (71) put on 122 before the former was trapped lbw by Brett D'Oliveira.

The home side whittled away at the MCC batting and Andrew picked up two catches at second slip and Ed Barnard one at leg slip as they closed on 309-6.
