Colin Will Ensure Worcestershire Victory Song Lives On In Auckland!

Colin Will Ensure Worcestershire Victory Song Lives On In Auckland!

One aspect of Colin Munro's three month spell at New Road will be heard on a regular basis when he gets back to playing for Auckland this winter – the Worcestershire victory song!

Munro is geared up for a hectic schedule of four games in eight days in this country with New Zealand 'A' in the Triangular Series also involving England Lions and Sri Lankla 'A'.

He finished as Worcestershire's second highest run scorer in the NatWest T20 Blast and on Thursday scored 151 off 100 balls for the Black Caps against Northamptonshire.

Now his focus is fully on his country before he returns home to New Zealand with his wife expecting their first child at the end of August.

But when he starts playing again with Auckland, rest assured the Worcestershire song, which is given a rendition in the dressing room after every victory, will be belted out by Munro.

He explained: "It's a funny story. We won the four-dayer against Essex shortly after I arrived and I happened to be about so I came into the dressing room because I wanted to listen to the song.

"As soon as it started, I recognised it. It was the Auckland song! Lou Vincent brought it back with Auckland and we sing along with it in the same way as the boys here.

"It is exactly the same except the guys here make it last a bit longer.

"I started singing the second verse and everyone wondered how I knew the words until I told them.

"It was pretty funny. The good thing is I was able to sing it a lot of times with the boys after their wins in the T20."

Munro will be back at New Road on August 11 for the clash with Sri Lanka 'A'.

The Triangular Series schedule is:

Tuesday August 5: New Zealand ‘A’ v Sri Lanka ‘A’ – Taunton

Wednesday August 6: England Lions v Sri Lanka ‘A’ – Taunton

Friday August 8: England Lions v New Zealand ‘A’ – Bristol

Saturday August 9: New Zealand ‘A’ v Sri Lanka ‘A’ – Bristol

Monday August 11: England Lions v Sri Lanka ‘A’ – Worcester

Tuesday August 12: England Lions v New Zealand ‘A’ – Worcester
