County 2017 Player Lyon Has Key Role With Ball For Australia

Worcestershire 2017 overseas player Nathan Lyon played a key role with the ball in Australia regaining the Ashes.

The off-spinner ended the series with 21 wickets as the home side completed a 4-0 triumph in Sydney yesterday.

Lyon, who played four County Championship matches for Worcestershire last summer, Pat Cummins (23 wickets), Mitchell Starc (22) and Josh Hazlewood (21) were Australia’s chief destroyers.

The 30-year-old Lyon finished with overall figures of 260.1-61-614-21-29.23 from the five game encounter.

Lyon’s best figures were 4-60 registered during the second Test in Adelaide.

Moeen Ali ended the series with 179 runs at an average of 19.88 and five wickets at 115.00.

The Worcestershire all-rounder’s top score was 40 in the first Test in Brisbane when batting at number six.

But he was moved back down the order to number seven after two Tests to allow Jonny Bairstow to switch to six.
