County All-Rounder Barnard Rescues Scarborough With Half Century

Ed Barnard hit a half-century to rescue Scarborough on the opening day of the Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match with Claremont-Newlands.

The Worcestershire all-rounder batted at number five and went to the wicket at 80-3 – a position which quickly deteriorated to 91-6.

But Barnard found an ally in Australian and Gloucestershire paceman Andrew Tye (76) and the pair added 119 for the seventh wicket.

Barnard, who lifted four trophies at Worcestershire’s end of season Awards Night, made 56 off 101 balls with seven boundaries.

Scarborough were eventually dismissed for 255 off 78.3 overs and Claremont-Newlands reached 24-0 by the close. The game will be concluded next weekend.

County batsman Ollie Westbury’s side, Grafton United, bowled out Waitakere for 104 on day one of the Auckland Cricket Premier Men’s Tom Hellaby Championship encounter.

Worcestershire all-rounder George Rhodes was dismissed for a first ball duck and bowled six overs for 23 runs as Onslow CC were dismissed for 175 and went down by four wickets to Wellington Collegians in the Ewen Chatfield Trophy.

*Wayne Parnell came out on top in the battle with fellow new Worcestershire signing Riki Wessels in the T10 League in Sharjah.

Wessels, making his first appearance in the tournament, made two not out as Bengal Tigers made 123-5 from 10 overs with Parnell returning 1-32 for Kerala Knights.

Then Jonny Bairstow smashed 84 not out from 26 balls as Kerala won by seven wickets with eight balls to spare.
