County All-Rounder Hepburn Helps Lead Fightback For Willetton Dragons

County All-Rounder Hepburn Helps Lead Fightback For Willetton Dragons

Alex Hepburn helped Willetton Dragons make a fine recovery on the opening day of the Western Australia Cricket Association first grade match with visiting Gosnells.

The Worcestershire all-rounder fell one run short of his first half century of the campaign in the senior competition although he had made two fifties in the Colts League.

But his efforts played a key role in rescueing Willetton from a tricky situation after they had opted to bat on winning the toss.

Hepburn, who scored four hundreds for Worcestershire Seconds in 2015, batted at number six and came to the wicket with Willetton on 86-4.

He shared in a fifth wicket stand of 40 with M Johnston (26) and then 71 for the sixth with J Mangan (34).

Hepburn, who made his senior Worcestershire debut in the Royal London One-Day Cup last season, was eventually sixth out for 49 with the total on 197.

He defied the Gosnells attack for 117 balls and struck five fours.

Then 52 from B Hogg continued the Willetton fightback and they closed the first day on 304 all out from 89.4 overs.

The match will be concluded next Saturday (December 5).

Hepburn had continued his policy of also playing in the Colts League last weekend and scored 12 against Midland-Guildford.

Worcestershire Academy opener Ollie Westbury was dismissed for a fifth ball duck in the Bunbury and District Cricket Association first grade clash away to Leschenault as leaders Hay Park were restricted to 146-9.

Westbury then bowled 10 overs for 35 runs and one wicket with two maidens.

But  Hay Park's run of five successive wins came to an end as Leschenault reached 147-6 and completed a double over their opponents.
