County Climb Into Fifth Spot After Victory Over Somerset

Worcestershire have moved up to fifth position in the LV = County Championship Division One table as a result of their emphatic win over Somerset at New Road.

The county bagged 23 points from their first success of the 2015 campaign – four for batting, three for bowling and 16 for a win.

They have topped the 300 mark in all three matches to date and have picked up more batting bonus points -11 – than any other county.

Worcestershire have also claimed maximum bowling points from the fixtures with Yorkshire, Sussex and Somerset – the 28th time in 29 matches that has been achieved.

Worcestershire skipper Daryl Mitchell insists himself and Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes will maintain a positive mindset in their approach to Division One cricket.

Mitchell said: "It is important to win games. It is something we targeted that year we stayed up and it worked for us.

"Both Bumpy (Rhodes) and myself are pretty positive in our outlook towards cricket and we want to win games of cricket.

"If that means setting up the odd game and losing the odd game to try and win, then we are more than prepared to do that.

"If you lose a couple trying to win, and then win one, you are better off than having three draws.

"It's something we both genuinely believe in. It's all about winning games of cricket and if we can four or five games, then we should be somewhere near where we want to be."
