County Continue Preparations For New Campaign At Chester Road

County Continue Preparations For New Campaign At Chester Road

Worcestershire continue their preparations for the new season from today (Monday) with the players undergoing net practice and fielding drills at Kidderminster

The County are de-camping to Chester Road to enable the groundstaff to continue with their work at New Road after the recent double flood.

The squad returned last week from playing a mixture of T20, 50 over and red ball cricket during the pre-season tour of Abu Dhabi against Essex, Warwickshire and Derbyshire.

Now after a week of honing their skills at Kidderminster, the players will feature in three games ahead of the County Championship opener against Kent at New Road on April 10.

Worcestershire will take on Somerset in a two day friendly at Taunton on March 28-29 and also play Warwickshire again at Edgbaston on April 5-6.

But in between they will face Oxford MCCU in a three-day first class fixture at The Parks from March 31 to April 2.

Assistant coach Matt Mason said: "We are going to be at Kidderminster for a couple of weeks but the facilities over there are very good.

"We've just got to gear up for that first game against Oxford, the first competitive match, and even after that we've still got some good time to the first Championship match against Kent here.

"Abu Dhabi sort of got the ball rolling, got us out there hitting balls and practicing well, and we have this nice period then of trying to adjust again to English conditions which can be difficult early season."
