County Overseas Player Hits One-Day Hundred For Australia A

Worcestershire 2018 overseas player, Travis Head, scored a fine century and picked up two wickets to lead Australia A to a 32 run win over South Africa A as part of the four-team series in India.

The left-hander went in at number three after choosing to bat and struck 110 off 117 balls with one six and 13 fours in Bengaluru.

His efforts helped Australia A to total 322-5 in their 50 overs in a series also involving India A and India B.

Head was fourth out at 285 after completing his sixth List A hundred.

He then showed his prowess with the ball in removing both openers after coming on as first change and finishing with 5-0-25-2.
South Africa were bowled out for 290 in 48.4 overs.

Head had struck 28 in Australia A’s opening match of the series against India A – with India B completing the four team line-up.

It was his side’s second top score as they were dismissed for 151 and went down by five wickets.

Head played six Specsavers County Championship, four Royal London One-Day Cup and five Vitality Blast matches for Worcestershire this summer.

Worcestershire coach Kevin Sharp believes he will reap the benefits of the experience.

He said: “Travis came in that early difficult period for batsmen. He is relatively young and would never have experienced those sort of conditions that we had in April.

“That will only stand him in good stead. He will benefit enormously from that experience.

“He had to learn to try and play a different way, play the ball later and close to him, and probably wasn’t able to play with the same flair and freedom he might do on Australian pitches.”
