Worcestershire 2018-2019 overseas player Callum Ferguson hit a splendid century for South Australia who edged out Victoria by eight runs in the JLT Cup in Melbourne.

Ferguson, who helped the Rapids to Vitality Blast glory this summer, enabled his side to end a run of three successive defeats in the 50 over competition after going in at number three.

He had made starts – 15, 34 and 43 – in three of his previous four innings in the tournament but this time went onto make the major contribution with 133 off 125 balls.

The 33-year-old, who will be returning to Blackfinch New Road for the majority of next summer after getting married in April, struck three sixes and 11 fours.

Ferguson shared in stands of 109 for the third wicket with skipper Jake Lehmann (44) and 94 for the fourth with Tom Cooper (37).

He was fifth out at 237 as South Australia scored 92 off the final 10 overs and closed on 265-7.

Victoria looked set for victory after reaching 178-2 in the 34th over.

But they then lost wickets at regular intervals and were bowled out for 257 off the final ball of the innings
