former players from many different eras will gather together at New Road tomorrow (sunday) for the club’s annual worcestershire old players’ association (wopa) day.
more than 50 players who have wore the county’s colours with pride will come together for lunch in the chestnut marquee.
they will also be able to watch the current squad in action as wopa day coincides with the royal london one-day cup match between worcestershire rapids and lancashire lightning.
those attending include fred rumsey – a co founder of the professional cricketers’ association in 1967 – former captain and current spin bowling coach norman gifford and icc elite panel umpire richard illingworth.
new worcestershire ceo matt rawnsley, ex chairman duncan fearnley, present vice-chairman tim curtis and current satellite academy coach paul pridgeon will also be attending.
rawnsley, who spent eight years as a player at New Road before embarking on a successful business career, said: “it is always a day to remember when some of the distinguished players from the county’s proud past get together on wopa day.
“it gives everyone a chance to catch up and recall some great times in the club’s great history and this sunday’s event should be as memorable as previous wopa days.”
