County All-Rounder Barnard Hits Ton As Shrews Tame Berkswell

Ed Barnard continued the fine form he has been showing for Worcestershire by hitting a century for Shrewsbury in their 39 run win over Berkswell in a Birmingham and District League Premier Division fixture.

The 21-year-old, who returned career best figures of 4-23 in the win over Gloucestershire, struck 117 off 106 balls with one six and 14 fours as Shrewbury totalled 299-9 in their 50 overs.

Barnard shared in a second wicket stand of 124 with County colleague Ollie Westbury (52 off 81 balls) while Alex Hepburn returned 2-65 off seven overs for Berkswell.

Barnard sent down seven overs for 18 runs and there was a return to action after a shoulder injury for Academy player Dillon Pennington who finished with 1-26 from seven overs.

Westbury also chipped in with two wickets for 59 as Berkswell were bowled out for 260 in 49 overs with Hepburn scoring 29.

Worcestershire players were amongst the runs as Ombersley overcame Brockhampton by six wickets.

Daryl Mitchell, fresh from his superb 130 against Gloucestershire, scored 73 off 86 balls for Brockhampton and put on 60 for the first wicket with Ashley Bullock.

But Brockhampton were dismissed for 139 in 39.4 overs with Mitchell stumped by Ben Cox who also took three catches.

Mitchell’s opening partner Brett D’Oliveira, who made 93 and 55 against Gloucestershire, made 50 off 47 balls and added 71 with Academy player Josh Dell (25) for the second wicket.

Then Cox saw Ombersley to victory in just 23.3 overs with 28 not out off 16 balls. Mitchell trapped Dell lbw and finished with 1-14.

Paceman Pat Brown, who bowled an impressive last day spell versus Gloucestershire, had figures of 10-1-36-3 as Kidderminster restricted West Bromwich Dartmouth to 252-7.

He then struck 23 off 20 balls but Kidderminster were bowled out for 180 in 40.2 overs.

In Division One, Brown’s bowling colleague, Josh Tongue, took 3-44 from 10 overs for Barnards Green against Moseley who were bowled out for 164 in 47.1 overs.

George Rhodes also weighed in with 10-1-26-2 and top-scored with 32 off 57 balls for Barnards Green who were skittled for 107 in 34.3 overs and went down by 57 runs.

Jack Shantry’s fine efforts with the ball were to no avail as Wellington went down by six wickets to Shifnal.

Shantry scored 13 as Wellington were dismissed for 136 in 48.5 overs and, after taking the new ball, he picked up four wickets as Shifnal were reduced to 53-4.

The left armer finished with 10-4-26-4 but no-one else could make a breakthrough and Shifnal reached their target in 26.2 overs.

Charlie Morris bowled nine overs for 42 runs for Bridgnorth, whose opponents Walmley scored 250-7, but he finished on the winning side via a seven wicket success. Bridgnorth reached 251-3 in 41.4 overs.
