County Seconds Must Wait To Learn Of Trophy Fate

County Seconds Must Wait To Learn Of Trophy Fate

Worcestershire Seconds must wait until Tuesday to see if they will qualify for the semi-finals of the Second Eleven Trophy competition.

MCC Young Cricketers are potentially the only side who can deny them a top two spot in the North Division.

They kept their hopes alive by defeating group leaders Warwickshire Seconds by 22 runs at Edgbaston yesterday, scoring 214-8 and bowling the home side out for 192.

MCC YC are currently two points behind Worcestershire Seconds and complete their programme on Tuesday when they take on Yorkshire Seconds at York.

Victory for MCC YC would put them level on eight points from six games with Worcestershire – and then who goes through would be decided by net run rate.

Worcestershire won their opening four games in the 2018 competition – including against MCC YC at Merchant Taylor’s School.

But they lost their final two group games against Durham and Lancashire.

If the Seconds qualify, the semi-finals will take place on Friday, June 15 with the final due to be staged on June 21 with a reserve day on June 22.
