County Signing Guptill Is World Cup Record Holder

worcestershire 2018 vitality blast overseas capture martin guptill produced one of the most remarkable innings ever seen in white ball cricket during the last icc world cup in his native new zealand.

guptill, who is available for the opening eight blast matches, hit an incredible 237 not out against the west indies in a quarter-final encounter at wellington in march 2015.

it remains the highest ever score in world cup history and is an indication of the star quality of the 31-year-old who will be heading to New Road this summer.

guptill smashed 11 sixes and 24 fours from just 163 deliveries.

his second hundred came off just 41 balls and he scored 92 of the 153 clocked up by the black caps in the final 10 overs.

guptill’s amazing knock is the second highest odi score of all time behind india rohit sharma’s 264 versus sri lanka four months earlier.

he has scored 5,976 odi runs with 13 tons and in 2013 scored back to back hundreds against england including 189 not out at the ageas bowl.

but his form in t20i cricket is equally impressive.

guptill has scored 2,271 t20i runs with two centuries and is currently ranked fifth in the icc world rankings in this format of the game.

one of those hundreds came just last month when guptill scored 105 against australia in auckland – in addition to two fifties versus england.

he is also available for two specsavers county championship matches during his spell at New Road from june 20 to july 29.
