COUNTY SIGNING PARNELL SET FOR PAKISTAN SUPER LEAGUE BOW IN DUBAI

wayne parnell is gearing up for a potential 10 pakistan super league group matches in the space of 23 games with reigning champions islamabad united who launch their bid for a third title in four years tomorrow.

the worcestershire all-rounder, who starts a three year contract with the county in 2019, is part of the squad to face lahore qalandars in dubai.

there is another New Road connection as the islamabad spin bowling coach is saeed ajmal.

ajmal had three spells with the county, most notably in 2014 when 63 wickets in nine games helped secure promotion in the specsavers county championship.

parnell has had the opportunity to recharge his batteries after a hectic first half of the winter in the afghanistan premier league and t10 super league in sharjah followed on from helping the rapids to vitality blast glory.

the 29-year-old will link up with worcestershire in time for the new campaign which, after a non first class match against cambridge university at fenners, gets underway versus leicestershire in the specsavers county championship at the fischer county ground from april 11.

the fourth edition of the psl will also feature games in abu dhabi and sharjah as part of the uae leg of the tournament.

the final eight matches will be staged in pakistan – with karachi playing host to the final on march 17.

*the cambridge university game – from april 5 to 7 – is deemed non first class as only the opening two rounds of all university fixtures receive such status.

cambridge play host to essex (march 26-28) and then nottinghamshire (march 31-april 2) before facing worcestershire.
