COUNTY SPINNER TWOHIG IMPRESSES WITH BAT FOR SOUTHERN DISTRICTS

ben twohig hit his first half century for southern districts as his side enjoyed a prolific day with the bat on the opening day of the south australia cricket association first grade encounter against home side woodville.

the worcestershire spinner came in at number four and struck an aggressive 54 as southern districts totalled 397 all out in 92.2 overs.

twohig went to the wicket at 188-2 and provided excellent support for districts opener and skipper joshua barrett (172 off 204 balls).

the pair added 116 with twohig rotating the strike but also producing aggressive shots of his own.

there was one false shot when an attempted pull top-edged for four over the keeper.

but he also produced an array of fine drives and slog sweeps which brought about two enormous sixes.

twohig was finally dismissed from his 75th delivery when caught at slip after trying to force through the off side.

woodville had time to make 11-0 from one over before the close with the game to be concluded next weekend.

meanwhile the family twohig is staying with during his spell in australia – grant and sally lovelock – have a link with a player who played against worcestershire in the 1930s!

sally’s grandfather, tim wall, was part of the great australian side of that era, featuring don bradman, which played at New Road.
