County Star Moeen And Challengers Make Late Charge For Play-Offs

County Star Moeen And Challengers Make Late Charge For Play-Offs

Moeen Ali’s side, Royal Challengers Bangalore, are making a late push to reach the knockout stages of the Indian Premier League.

The Worcestershire all-rounder has stepped off the side-lines to play the last three matches for the Challengers – his first ever taste of IPL action.

Moeen, who will be 31 next month, helped RCB to defeat Delhi Daredevils by five wickets and most recently a 10 wicket success over Kings X1 Punjab.

They are occupying seventh spot in the eight-team table in which the top four go through to the next stage.

But the Challengers are now just two points adrift of fourth placed Rajasthan Royals and have to meet them in their final group game on May 19.

Before that Moeen and the Challengers have to take on former Worcestershire player and Director of Cricket Tom Moody’s side, Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday.

Moeen dismissed top scorer Aaron Finch for 26 as the Kings X1 Punjab were bowled out for just 88.

He finished with 1-13 from his 2.1 overs.

Meanwhile, Moeen will find out today whether he will be part of the England Test squad for the forthcoming series against Pakistan.

He was left out of the final Test in New Zealand but his replacement for that game, Somerset’s Jack Leach, yesterday broke his thumb when batting in the nets at Taunton.

The squad is due to be announced at 3pm.
