Worcestershire CCC have welcomed the decision of the ECB to unalter the structure of the 2016 season and to instead have an elongated period of consultation ahead of any proposed changes for 2017 onwards.
There have been proposals under consideration to reduce the number of LV = County Championship matches for next season and make changes to the set-up of the 50 over and T20 competitions.
But instead now an extended spell of consultation will be undertaken before any potential alterations to the structure are announced.
A Worcestershire CCC statement reads: "There has been lots of discussion recently about the restructuring of the game and plans that were potentially going to come in place for 2016.
"The announcement from the ECB that the 2016 programme will have the same LV = County Championship structure with 16 four-day games and a longer process of consultation is supported by the Club.
"There is still a lot of consultation to be done to look at the future structure of cricket going forward into 2017, a season which will also see the Champions Trophy and the Women’s t20 World Cup held in this country.
"But ultimately with things staying the same for 2016, that will give time for a full consultation on what that structure should be like for the future, taking into consideration both the historical position of County Clubs as well as considering the long term sustainability and viability of the game as a whole, which is something we welcome."
