County To Return To Abu Dhabi As Part Of Pre-Season Preparations

Worcestershire CCC are to return to Abu Dhabi for a third successive year as part of their pre-season preparations for the 2016 campaign.

The County's players, coaches and backroom staff will be flying out to the UAE on March 4 and will play five days cricket in addition to undergoing warm weather training before returning on March 15.

They are provisionally pencilled in to play Essex, Derbyshire and a UAE X1 (or other Associate team) in a mixture of T20, 50 over and red ball cricket.

There will again be the opportunity for supporters to make the trip for an eight-day period with details to be announced shortly.

The Zayed Nursery Ground will be used for four days cricket with a 50 over match against Derbyshire taking place in the main Zayed Stadium.

Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes said: "We got a lot of value from going out there. It's a really good camp for us and the facilities are excellent.

"The weather is brilliant and the company that look after the trip do a sterling job in being very professional and we've had no problems.

"It makes the season very long and I've thought about that and the lads might flag towards the end of the year.

"But we put in two very strong performances in the last two four-day games (against Durham and Middlesex) which makes me think we are fine.

"To me it is all about making sure the lads are ready and right for that first game and we've been doing that better with these tours.

"We will carry on and continue. We go a bit earlier than the rest and the reason for that is you get the best of the wickets.

"The lads are ready for outdoors by the time March comes around."
