Martin Guptill was denied the chance to make history for New Zealand by a spectacular catch – but his side still triumphed by 88 runs in Dunedin to complete an ODI whitewash over Bangladesh.
Worcestershire Rapids newly announced 2019 Vitality Blast signing had scored centuries in the opening two matches of the series.
Guptill was bidding to become the first New Zealander to scorer three centuries in a bilateral series.
The 32-year-old again looked in good form in moving onto 29 with the aid of a massive six back over the head of Mustafizur Rahman.
But then Guptill went for another big hit off Mohammad Saifuddin only for Tamin Iqbal on the long on boundary to overbalance, throw the ball back and catch it while he was off the ground before stepping back into play.
Guptill, who is available for 11 Vitality Blast group games plus any potential quarter-final-finals day, ended the series with 264 runs at an average of 132.00.
He was the highest run-scorer on either side.
Guptill has now amassed a total of 6,440 ODI runs at an average of 43.51 and only Ross Taylor (20) has scored more than his 16 centuries.
His superb form will certainly whet the appetite of Worcestershire members and supporters with the new campaign only a few weeks away.
Taylor became the Black Caps highest ODI run-scorer during the course of his side’s 330-6 and they dismissed Bangladesh for 242 to take the series 3-0.
