County Warm Up For New Campaign With 482 Run Win In The Parks

Worcestershire warmed up for the forthcoming Specsavers County Championship campaign with a 482 run win over Oxford MCCU in The Parks today.

The County amassed 451-3 declared before declaring at lunch-time on the final day with an overall lead of 606.

Then their bowlers shared the wickets in another good work-out as the students were dismissed for 124 in 64 overs in their second innings.

Worcestershire openers Daryl Mitchell and Brett D'Oliveira extended their partnership to 286 and Alexei Kervezee and Tom Kohler-Cadmore completed half-centuries.

It meant all of the top five scored at least a fifty in the game after Joe Clarke's first innings hundred.

Mitchell took his tally to 155 before he was caught by Steve Leach – brother of Joe Leach – off Sam Weller.

The Worcestershire captain struck 21 fours and a six in his 185 ball knock.

Weller enjoyed another success when D'Oliveira on 122 was caught behind by keeper Matthew Laidman. His 143 ball knock contained one six and 12 fours.

Kervezee and Kohler-Cadmore added 101 in 15 overs before the former was stumped by Laidman off Hassam Mushtaq for 59.

His 56 ball innings included seven boundaries.

Kohler-Cadmore remained unbeaten on 68 from 62 balls with 10 fours and a six and Ross Whiteley 26 not out before the declaration.

When Oxford began their reply, Joe Leach claimed the opening two wickets including his brother Steve for 11.

Wickets fell at regular intervals with the most resistance provided by number five batsman Jack McIver who batted 156 minute and 119 deliveries for an unbeaten 27.

McIver and last man Abidine Sakande held out for seven overs before the latter became the third victim of D'Oliveira who finished with figures of 8-3-11-3.

Ed Barnard (2-19), Josh Tongue (1-14), Alexei Kervezee (2-24) and D'Oliveira (3-11) also enjoyed success with the ball.
