County’s Clash With Leeds-Bradford Mccu Deprived Of First Class Status

Worcestershire CCC's three-day match against Leeds-Bradford University next month is classified as a NON first class fixture.

Only the opening two University matches of each campaign are deemed to represent first class status.

Leeds-Bradford open their 2017 programme with a three-day clash against Kent at the St.Lawrence Ground Canterbury on March 28-30.

The students then take on Yorkshire at Headingley from April 2-4.

Worcestershire will provide them with their next opposition at Weetwood from April 7-9 which is outside of the current first class status parameters.

This is in contrast to Worcestershire's recent early season matches with Oxford MCCU which fell in the first class bracket.

The Leeds-Bradford match will mark new Worcestershire captain Joe Leach's return to the University for whom he made his first class debut five years ago this month.

That occured in March 2012 against Surrey at the Kia Oval and the all-rounder made an instant impact.

His first two victims in the same over were Surrey skipper Rory Hamilton-Brown and then current England one-day opener Jason Roy for a second ball duck and he finished with 4-73.

Leach was dismissed for a duck in the Leeds-Bradford MCCU first innings and bowled only two overs in Surrey's second innings.

But he made exactly 50 in the second as the students were bowled out for 312 and lost by just two runs.
