Couny Climb Out Of Bottom Two At Half-Way Stage Of Championship

Worcestershire have moved outside of the bottom two in Division One of the LV = County Championship as a result of their impressive 12 point haul from the drawn game with third placed Middlesex at Uxbridge.

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes' side have reached the half-way stage of the season lying in seventh spot in the nine-team table.

Worcestershire have moved two points clear of both Hampshire and Nottinghamshire whom they face in their next fixture starting at Trent Bridge on Monday.

Their two closest rivals suffered heavy defeats against Somerset and Yorkshire respectively in their latest round of matches.

Worcestershire have shown themselves to be competitive in most of their fixtures to date and have actually earned a first innings lead in six of their eight games.

They have also acquired more bowling points than anyone else with a maximum haul of 24 which means they have collected the full amount in 35 of their last 36 Championship encounters.

Worcestershire have also secured the joint most batting bonus points – 24 – along with second placed Yorkshire.

They have scored 300 or more in six of their eight first innings.

Assistant coach Matt Mason said: "We are keeping very positive. We are looking at all the positive stuff we are doing and it's going to come good.

"We talk about the fact we could have won this and that, not that we've lost this and that.

"We've got to keep thinking about the stuff we've done well and keep doing that even better and the other stuff will improve over time."
