Ben Cox’s superb performances for Worcestershire Rapids in the Royal London One-Day Cup this summer – with the bat and behind the stumps – are reflected in the final averages.
Cox ended as the Rapids highest run-scorer in the competition with 396 runs and was a model of consistency throughout with crucial and sometimes match-winning contributions.
But he also ended as the keeper with the most dismissals in the entire competition, pouching 18 catches in the nine matches – four more than Derbyshire’s Daryn Smit.
The 26-year-old scored three half centuries – including a vital 80 against Warwickshire in the final North Group match – and a memorable 122 not out in the semi-final against Kent who were beaten in the weekend final by Hampshire.
Cox ended with an average of 79.20 and his run tally edged past Callum Ferguson (79.20) who scored memorable tons against Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
The Australian did, however, top the batting averages at 94.25.
But there were impression contributions all down the order with different people standing up to be counted when they were needed – a major facet of the Rapids success.
On the bowling front Ed Barnard was the leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps but Moeen Ali, Charlie Morris and Brett D’Oliveira all made sizeable contributions.
Moeen topped the averages and was also Worcestershire’s most economical bowler in the One-Day Cup.
