Worcestershire CCC’s annual Memorabilia Day on Monday (August 28) is a sell-out with all available tables in the McMinn Developments Marquee snapped up – including one by County opener Daryl Mitchell!
Daryl will, of course, be fully focusing himself on the opening day of Worcestershire’s Specsavers County Championship match with Gloucestershire.
But whilst he is out in the middle, his wife Danni will be amongst those selling off items in the Marquee in aid of the Professional Cricketers’ Association Big Bike Ride 3 which will raise money for the PCA Benevolent Fund and the Tom Maynard Trust.
Daryl – the current chairman of the PCA – will be accompanied by his father in law Mel for the five-day 360 mile event between October 13 and 17.

Daryl said: “As part of the fund-raising for the PCA legacy appeal and the bike ride, Tim Jones (Worcs CCC board member and Heritage co-ordinator) has very kindly helped me out with a table at Memorabilia Day
“I’ve got plenty of shirts off the lads all signed up and a few other bits and bobs of memorabilia which will be for sale, all going for a very worthy cause.
“Danni and my mum are coming down to help out with the table and hopefully a couple more people can do the same.”
The Worcestershire Supporters’ Association and Worcestershire Cricket Society are also amongst those who have taken a table.
The Supporters’ Association will be selling some of the extensive list of memorabilia items left to them by their late chairman Ken Mills who sadly passed away last year.
The Cricket Society also have a variety of cricket books to purchase donated by committee members Mike Douch and Tricia Dyson.
They will also have some Cricket Society ladies scarves and a tie available if anyone wants to buy one – priced £10 each – and will be giving out our excellent quality advertising bifolds explaining what the Society is all about.
Tickets will also be available for the Society end of season raffle which will be drawn at their luncheon on Sunday October 8 with some excellent raffle prizes obtained by committee member John Meredith.
Cricket Society member, John Weston, also has a table reserved on Memorabilia Day and has a special offer of three books for the price of two plus Wisden and Worcs CCC year books availalabe.
There will be 20 tables of cricket related items in the marquee from 10am until 5pm and admission to the cricket memorabilia market is free on a day where admission to the ground is also free via tickets which must be booked in advance through the Worcestershire CCC website.
There will also be two book signings. Worcester based author, and former first class cricketer, Andrew Murtagh will be signing copies of his new biography of Colin Cowdrey.
During the lunch interval The Reverend Mike Vockins – the club’s former Secretary-CEO – will be signing copies of his book ‘Chig’ about the wartime record of former Worcestershire president WR Chignell.
WR Chignell himself wrote two volumes on the history of the club and these are sure to be amongst the second hand books on sale, usually at bargain prices.
Organiser Richard Brown said: “This event has grown year on year. There is always a fascinating range of memorabilia, the chance to buy early Christmas presents or fill that gap in your cricket library.
“There are plenty of experts in the room ready to swap cricket stories or tell you more about your own memorabilia.
“Lunch time tends to be very busy so an early visit to New Road before play gets under way might be the best time to visit us.”
