D’oliveira And Hepburn Hit Tons To Lead Seconds To Victory

D’oliveira And Hepburn Hit Tons To Lead Seconds To Victory

Openers Brett D'Oliveira and Alex Hepburn both scored centuries as Worcestershire Seconds defeated Unicorns by seven wickets in their opening Second Eleven Trophy match at Kidderminster.

The pair put together an opening stand of 216 in 39 overs as Worcestershire reached their 275 target with five balls to spare.

D'Oliveira and Hepburn both achieved career best knocks in the 50 over competition.

They came together after Tom Kohler-Cadmore was called up for 12th man duties at Trent Bridge after Alex Gidman suffered a bout of concussion.

D'Oliveira made 122 off 128 balls with two sixes and 16 fours before he was caught at long on.

He surpassed his previous best Trophy score of 93 against MCC Young Cricketers at High Wycombe in 2013.

George Rhodes (3) and Alexei Kervezee (15) fell cheaply but Hepburn saw the Seconds through to victory with an unbeaten 119 off 137 deliveries with one six and 14 fours.

Ironically, Hepburn's previous best was also achieved in that same match against MCC YC – 101 not out, his only other century.

The Unicorns totalled 274-9 after being put into bat by Worcestershire skipper Shaaiq Choudhry.

Opener Alex Mellor top-scored with 83 from 100 balls with one six and 10 fours.

He shared in stands of 79 with Sam Kelsall (28) and 87 with Aaron West (52) before Harry Stephens hit an unbeaten 38.

Kervezee (3-53) and Ross Whiteley (2-24) were the most successful bowlers.
