Dolly And Russell Called Into County Squad For Championship Finale

Dolly And Russell Called Into County Squad For Championship Finale

Spinner Brett D'Oliveira and paceman Chris Russell have been added to the Worcestershire squad for the final LV = County Championship match of the season with Essex at Chelmsford starting on Tuesday.

Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes will be forced to make one change from the side which overcame Surrey at New Road nine days ago to seal promotion to Division One.

New Zealand paceman Mitchell McClenaghan has returned home following the sad death of his father.

Russell played in the opening Championship match of the season against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl but since then has been restricted to white ball cricket.

D'Oliveira was part of the side which reached the quarter-finals of the NatWest T20 Blast.

He has also been in good form for the Seconds, scoring a century in the final match of the season against Hampshire at New Road.

Rhodes said: "Chris Russell is coming into the squad. He bowled well in the nets so he will be itching to get an opportunity in the last game of the season.

"He is a squad bowler and there are times when you need these guys to come in and do a good job straight away.

"If he plays, this is the four days when we need a big effort from him.

"Brett would love to have a crack at things in the last game of the season. He's had a good second team spell lately and is in good nick, bowling and batting well.

"If we decide to play two spinners, I'm pretty confident he will do a good job." Fellow spinner Shaaiq Choudhry has not been included in the 12 man squad.

Worcestershire, who need a maximum of six points to go up as champions, will select from: Mitchell, Oliver, Moeen Ali, Fell, Kervezee, Kohler-Cadmore, Cox, Leach, D'Oliveira, Shantry, Morris, Russell.
