ed barnard says worcestershire’s bowlers will attempt to put the pressure back onto lancashire on day two of the specsavers county championship match at New Road tomorrow.
the home side were bowled out for 98 in 38.1 overs on a rain-hit opening day after lancashire opted to bowl.
barnard top-scored with 32 and is looking for the worcestershire attack – including debutant adam finch – to also cause problems.
he said: “we will have to try and do what they have done, put the ball in the right areas and hope it moves as much as it has for them.
“the weather forecast is not good for the next couple of days but we will just have to make sure we are ready whenever we do get out there to try and get those early wickets and put them under pressure.
“we’ve got leachy (joe leach) and mozza (charlie morris) bowling really well at the moment and then parny (wayne parnell), myself and finchy (adam finch) on debut.
“the chance is there to bowl really well. the pitch is doing a little bit so it should play into our hands and hopefully we can put the pressure back on them.
“finchy is a high quality bowler. he has done really for the last couple of years in the seconds and impressed on the pre-season tour this year.
“he is a big lad, he bowls quickly so hopefully he can ruffle a few feathers.”
as regards events on day one, barnard said: “it was a really disappointing day. obviously tough conditions when you get stuck in on a fresh pitch and, with it being overcast as well, it wasn’t ideal to bat.
“but i think we are disappointed with the way we batted.
“they have got some high class bowlers in their attack and they bowled really well and utilized the conditions but i still think we could have possibly gone on and stuck in a bit more and got a bigger score.
“it was nice for myself to spend some time in the middle. i haven’t spent much time in the middle recently and getting the chance to bat a little bit higher (number six) was nice as well.
“how tough was it to bat? it was tough, it wasn’t an easy wicket to bat on and, like i said, the overcast weather played nicely into their hands.”
