England Under-19 Duo Clarke And Barnard Both Hit Unbeaten Half Centuries

England Under-19 Duo Clarke And Barnard Both Hit Unbeaten Half Centuries

Worcestershire's England Under-19 duo of Joe Clarke and Ed Barnard were in good form playing first grade cricket for South Perth and Queanbeyan District respectively.

Wicket-keeper batsman Joe Clarke was again amongst the runs for South Perth CC on the opening day of the Western Australian Cricket Association first grade meeting with Subiaco Floreat CC.

Clarke had scored 55 and picked up three catches in helping South Perth to overcome Melville in their previous two day match.

The England Under-19 player followed that up with an unbeaten 52 after coming into bat at number five.

Clarke, who was Worcestershire's leading run-scorer in the Second Eleven Championship last summer, has stressed the importance of scoring heavily and consistently if he is to challenge for a first team spot at New Road.

South Perth won the toss and had reached 149-3 when Clarke came to the wicket.

He had to shepherd his side through a mini wobble which saw them lose two further wickets with the total on 170.

Clarke went onto hit six boundaries in his 70 ball innings and by the close South Perth had reached 279-7 off 90 overs.

All-rounder Barnard helped Queaybeyan District cruise to a eight wicket home win over Tuggeranong Valley in the Australian Capital Territory first grade competition.

Tuggeranong were dismissed for 135 with Barnard returning figures of 1-26.

Barnard, who had impressed in the Konica Cup T20 competition last weekend, then hit an impressive 72 not out which ensured Queaybeyan made light work of their task.

He tweeted afterwards: "Another great win for the bluebags!!!"
