Eventful Knock For County Star Moeen As England Top 300 Mark

Moeen Ali experienced an eventful innings in steering England past the 300 mark on the opening day of the third Test with Sri Lanka in Colombo.

The Worcestershire all-rounder survived two dropped chances and also successfully reviewed twice after being given out.

By the close the County’s Vitality Blast winning captain had moved onto an unbeaten 23 from 46 balls out of England’s 312-7 before bad light ended play 11 balls early.

Moeen batted at number seven and came to the wicket after centurion Jonny Bairstow was fifth out at 254.

He was dropped behind when on two off Lakshan Sandakan and again at slip on 17 against the bowling of Dilruwan Perera.

Moeen was given out lbw on two occasions off Perera when on 19 and 23.

But his first review showed the ball to be missing leg stump and the on the second occasion he had inside edged onto his pad.

In between Moeen played some positive strokes to keep the scoreboard moving at a healthy rate.
