Worcestershire Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes has sent messages of support for the club's former batsman Phil Hughes who remains in a critical condition after being struck on the head by a short-pitched ball in Australia yesterday.
The left hander is in hospital in Sydney after collapsing during a Sheffield Shield match while playing for South Australia against New South Wales.
Hughes has had scans and Australian team doctor Peter Brukner said: "Phillip's condition is unchanged and he remains critical."
The 25-year-old was carried off on a stretcher after a delivery from pace bowler Sean Abbott struck him on the head.
Hughes was taken to hospital where he was placed in an induced coma following surgery.
The match was abandoned after the incident, and Cricket Australia says the games between Victoria and Western Australia, and Queensland and Tasmania have also been called off.
Hughes played for Worcestershire in 2012, averaging 100 in T20 and 83 in 40 over cricket, and Rhodes said: "When he was with us, he was thought of as one of the Worcester lads.
"He's a very easy going and determined character and hopefully he will come through all of this.
"I have sent a couple of messages which will hopefully get through."
