Ex New Road Coach Houghton Becomes Middlesex Batting Coach

Former Worcestershire head coach David Houghton has agreed a deal to become Middlesex's new batting coach.

The 57-year-old will replace Mark Ramprakash who has joined England's coaching staff in a similar capacity.

Houghton will join Middlesex on a two-year deal on January 1 when his current commitments with Somerset end.

The former Zimbabwe batsman was in charge of cricket affairs at New Road from 1994 to 1997 when the county's current Director of Cricket Steve Rhodes and chief executive David Leatherdale were part of the side.

Middlesex's managing director of cricket Angus Fraser said: "David has a wealth of knowledge that we can tap in to.

"David is a real cricket man. His coaching time will be split over the whole club."

Houghton has also coached the Zimbabwe national side and been Director of Cricket at Derbyshire as well as their assistant and batting coach.
