Fell Again Makes His Mark And Says County “Very Much In The Game”

tom fell says worcestershire “still feel very much in the game” heading into the final day of the specsavers county championship clash with surrey at New Road.

fell made another fine contribution with the bat, top-scoring with 89 to follow his first innings 69, as worcestershire set the title favourites a 272 target.

by the close openers rory burns and mark stoneman had scored 70-0. but fell believes the county are still well in contention.

he said: “we still feel very much in the game. the ball is turning. if you put the ball in the right areas, there is enough in it.

“we’ve just got to do that tomorrow. we’ve got to be as relentless as we can, keep bashing the top of off which is the message to the bowlers.

“hopefully we can do that and make it difficult for them tomorrow.”

fell played with plenty of fluency before he was one of five victims in an inspired spell from south african paceman morne morkel – dismissed by the last ball before tea when a century looked to be beckoning.

he said: “was i disappointed not to get a century? definitely. it was nice to be out there for a while and to get another score but disappointed not to kick on especially after having two innings of fifty plus in the game.

“morkel bowled fantastically well. he was really relentless and that’s why he has been such a great test bowler over the years.

“when you’ve got players like that in the opposition who can change the game, it does make it difficult.

“i still thought we put ourselves in a half decent position to win the game, obviously probably a little bit lighter (in terms of runs) than we wanted to be at tea.

“even so, we’ve done a pretty good job and we are still in the game certainly.”
