Worcestershire batsman Tom Fell has set his sights on adding greater consistency to his game in LV = County Championship cricket.
Fell scored his maiden Championship hundred last summer against Leicestershire at Grace Road – a crucial knock in enabling the county to bounce back in their second innings after being put into bat on a green wicket.
He followed that up with another century in his next Championship knock against Glamorgan at New Road in late June.
It was a perfect way for Fell to celebrate regaining his spot in the side after his flatmate Tom Kohler-Cadmore had been chosen ahead of him during the early part of the campaign following a successful pre-season.
But Fell is concious that he was unable to maintain his form of mid summer with his only other Championship half century coming against Derbyshire at Derby although he did sparkle with the bat in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
He ended with 533 Championship runs at an average of 29.63.
When asked to reflect on his first full year of Championship cricket, Fell said: "It was obviously nice to get those two hundreds in the middle of the season.
"But to be honest, if I look back on it, I think my overall stats for the season weren't where I hoped they would be.
"Especially towards the end of the season, I tailed off a little bit, a few inconsistent scores for me.
"It is something to learn from last year going forward for next season, that you have to keep going and don't let that foot come off the gas and see it right through to the end of the season."
Fell, who reported back today at Malvern College with his team-mates after the break for Christmas, added: "The hundred at Leicester, that was nice. It is always good to get the first one out of the way.
"They say the second one is a lot easier and it proved that way by getting it the next innings!
"It was good to get those but you can't settle for two good innings in a season. You've got to back it up with more scores and I don't think I did that enough.
"I got a 70 at Derbyshire but other than that it was a few low scores which ruined my average for the season and perhaps didn't reflect the way I felt for the whole of the season."
