FELL AND RHODES MAKE IMPACT BUT SECONDS SUFFER DOUBLE T20 SETBACK

worcestershire seconds were beaten in their two t20s with nottinghamshire at New Road despite another half century from tom fell in game one and a fine all-round performance by skipper george rhodes in game two.

fell followed up his century against durham at burnopfield cc on thursday by top-scoring with 54 off 35 balls with three sixes and four fours.

but worcestershire were always facing an uphill battle in pursuit of a 176 target after being reduced to 21-5.

ollie westbury fell to paul coughlin for a first ball duck and then rhodes, josh dell, alex milton and joe leach dismissed cheaply with zak chappell and matt carter picking up two wickets apiece.

rhodes (10) was caught and bowled by carter who also trapped dell (5) lbw while milton (1) holed out to short third man off chappell and leach (0) was bowled by the same bowler.

fell and jacques banton added 70 for the sixth wicket before the former fell to lyndon james when he was pouched at cow corner.

banton went onto make 46 off 34 deliveries with one six and six boundaries before he was eighth out at 127 – taken at long off – and worcestershire were eventually bowled out for 148 in 19 overs.

carter finished with figures of 4-0-25-3 and chappell 4-0-21-3.

earlier nottinghamshire opener ben slater had made an undefeated 77 from 5 1 balls with five sixes and three fours as notts totalled 175-6 after opting to bat.

he put on 69 for the first wicket in eight overs with sol budinger (33) who was caught at backward square leg by xavie clarke.

james weighed in with 25 before he skied a catch to keeper milton.

ed bragg (3-0-23-2) and leach (4-0-38-2) finished with two wickets apiece while charlie morris (4-0-34-1), adam finch (4-0-37-0), rhodes (3-0-25-0) and banton (2-0-14-0) were the other bowlers.

in game two, worcestershire rejigged their batting order after winning the toss and totalled 162-5.

club captain leach opened with milton (17) and the pair put on 29 in three overs before the latter was caught at deep fine leg off carter.

leach (18) was bowled by jack blatherwick and fell made 24 off 14 balls until caught a deep cover off chris gibson.

it became 95-4 when dell was bowled by liam patterson-white before rhodes and westbury put together a fifth wicket stand of 60 in 7.1 overs.

westbury eventually was caught at cover off blatherwick to leave rhodes unbeaten with 43 from 31 deliveries with one six and four fours.

leach struck an early blow when nottinghamshire batted in having patterson-white (9) caught at mid off by rhodes.

gibson (31) and slater (30) put in 55 in 3.4 overs for the second wicket before both were dismissed by rhodes – caught at mid-on and caught and bowled respectively.

rhodes (4-0-30-3) enjoyed a third success when budinger was stumped and leach (3.4-0-31-2) returned to have james lbw for 28 but chappell (20 not out) and carter (15 not out) saw nottinghamshire to victory in 17.4 overs.

the other bowlers used were morris (3-0-34-0), finch (2-0-21-0), bragg (3-0-29-0) and banton (2-0-20-0).
