Fell Hits Unbeaten 93 As Seconds Enjoy Opening Day Versus Notts

Tom Fell hit an unbeaten 93 as Worcestershire Seconds enjoyed the better of proceedings on the opening day of their Championship match with Notttinghamshire Seconds at Notts Sports Club.

Nottinghamshire elected to bat and were dismissed for 198 in 62.5 overs with spinner Ben Twohig claiming three wickets.

Former Worcestershire Academy player Will Fraine top-scored with 55 for the home side.

Then Fell raced to a 45 ball half century as Worcestershire, despite the loss of two late wickets, reached 134-3 by the close.

In front of the County's bowling coach Matt Mason, it was Adam Finch who struck the first blow of the day with the last ball of his first over as Joey Evison (9) was trapped lbw.

Then another of Worcestershire's promising young pace bowlers in Dillon Pennington accounted for Nottinghamshire skipper Jake Libby (17) with Twohig at third slip pouching the chance.

Worcestershire made two further breakthroughs just before lunch with CF Gibson (23) lbw to Twohig and Brett Hutton (0) caught behind off Alex Hepburn.

Skipper Charlie Morris then got in on the wicket-taking act after the interval when bowling Anuj Dal and Nottinghamshire had lost half of their side for 117.

Fraine held up the Worcestershire attack until he was eighth out at 166 but they continued to take wickets at the other end.

Twohig ended with 3-45 from 19 overs, Morris 2-28, Hepburn 2-26 and Finch 2-43

When Worcestershire launched their reply, Ollie Westbury was bowled by Hutton for a single on the ground he scored his first Seconds century two years ago.

Fell, who survived one chance, and Josh Dell added 81 to take the Seconds to 125-1.

But then Dell (31) edged Matthew Carter to slip and to the final ball of the day Hepburn (2) was lbw to Hutton.
