FERGUSON SIGNS OFF IN STYLE BUT THUNDER ARE EDGED OUT IN BATTLE TO QUALIFY

FERGUSON SIGNS OFF IN STYLE BUT THUNDER ARE EDGED OUT IN BATTLE TO QUALIFY

Callum Ferguson signed off from the Big Bash in style – but his excellent efforts ended in disappointment as Sydney Thunder were eliminated on net run rate.

The Worcestershire 2018 and 2019 player continued his fine run of form by hitting 47 to steer the Thunder to a four wicket win with 10 balls to spare.

But his side had needed to overhaul a 166 total in 11.3 overs to book a spot in the top four and qualify for the knockout stages.

Ferguson took his run tally in the tournament past the 400 mark and his 34 ball knock contained one six and three fours.

He came in at 23-1 in the third over and was eventually sixth out with the total on 153 in the 17th over after top-scoring for the Thunder.

Ferguson was bowled by Sussex paceman Jofra Archer who is soon to be qualified for England.

He added 58 for the sixth wicket with Chris Green.

The Thunder were edged out for the final qualification spot by the Brisbane Heat with both sides on 13 points via six wins, seven defeats and one no result.
