Four Wicket Haul For Brett D’oliveira Against Mcc In Cape Town

Brett D'Oliveira impressed with the ball for his club side St. Augustine in the one-day match with the MCC at the Basil D'Oliveira Sports Complex in Cape Town.

But D'Oliveira finished on the losing side with the MCC edging home by nine runs via the Duckworth Lewis method.

The Worcestershire all-rounder picked up four wickets – including three current county players – as MCC were restricted to 160-8 in their 40 overs.

St. Augustine reached 81-4 in reply off 24.5 overs before a heavy downpour ended the contest.

Worcestershire paceman Charlie Morris was not involved after playing in the first three matches of the tour for the MCC and collecting eight wickets in the nine wicket win over a Western Province X1.

But the MCC resources were depleted through illness by a bug which led to a fitness head count from physio Peter Waxman.

D'Oliveira dismissed Derbyshire all-rounder Wes Durston (11) at 92-4 and then collected three wickets in successive overs at the climax of the innings.

He accounted for Middlesex keeper John Simpson (7), Leicestershire batsman Ned Eckersley (12) and former Middlesex spinner Chris Peploe (16) in the 35th, 37th and 39th overs.

D'Oliveira, who signed a new three year contract at New Road in September, finished with 4-33 from seven overs.

He then opened the innings for St. Augustine and made eight off 18 balls with one boundary before being first out with 19 on the board.

St. Augustine required another 80 off 15.1 overs when the elements intervened.
