Four Wickets On Seconds Debut For Brinder Phagura

Four Wickets On Seconds Debut For Brinder Phagura

Brinder Phagura picked up four wickets on his Worcestershire Seconds debut as part of a new-look attack on the opening day of the Championship match with Leicestershire Seconds at Rugby School.

The Warwickshire Academy product, who plays in the Birmingham Premier League for West Bromwich Dartmouth, ended up with figures of 18-4-51-4 after coming on as first change.

But a century from Ateeq Javid enabled Leicestershire to recover from 53-4 at one stage to reach 350-6 from 105 overs by the close.

Hereford-born left armer Jamie McIlroy, who has played for Glamorgan Seconds and Herefordshire this season, also made his first appearance for the Seconds and shared the new ball with Liam Grey.

There was a re-appearance for another paceman in Alex Wilkinson who is at Oxford MCCU and has also played for Herefordshire this summer.

Leicestershire opted to bat and ran into early problems with Harry Dearden, Harry Swindells, Aadil Ali and Sam Evans all falling cheaply.

But former Warwickshire player Javid shared in stands of 157 with Mohammad Azad (77) and Charles Lowen (63 not out).

He was eventually dismissed for 155 from 273 balls with one six and 20 fours.

Alex Milton picked up four catches behind the stumps while Ali was caught by Ryan Gibson at third slip via the bat and pad.
