Frustration For Seconds As Trophy Match Is Abandoned

Frustration For Seconds As Trophy Match Is Abandoned

Worcestershire Seconds suffered more weather frustration as their Second Eleven Trophy clash with Durham at Richmondshire CC was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

A wet outfield and saturated bowlers run-ups left the umpires with no choice but to call off the 50 overs per side fixture at 10am today.

Much of the damage had been done on Sunday night when heavy downpours meant the 40 over friendly between the two counties at the same venue yesterday was also a victim of the elements.

But there was little improvement in the weather in the following 24 hours.

Drizzle greeted the players when they arrived at the ground this morning and there was an inevitability about the game being abandoned.

Both sides will collect one point from the fixture.

Worcestershire will be hoping for better luck with their next scheduled fixture – a three-day friendly against Somerset Seconds at Taunton Vale from April 11 to 13.

The first team have already visited Taunton Vale but their two day warm-up fixture with Somerset was called off without a ball being bowled.
