Further Inspection At 3.40 Pm For Rapids Home Clash

Further Inspection At 3.40 Pm For Rapids Home Clash

The start of Worcestershire Rapids NatWest T20 Blast encounter with Durham Jets at New Road has been delayed after overnight and morning rain – but umpire Mark Benson is "pretty confident" there will eventually be action.

Play was unable to get underway in the televised encounter at the scheduled time of 2.30pm.

But umpires Benson and fellow umpire Martin Bodenham are due to make a further inspection at 3.40pm and the encouraging news is a brighter forecast for the remainder of the afternoon.

The groundstaff, who earned praise on Sky TV for their efforts from Benson, are currently undertaking mopping up operations in bright sunshine.

Benson said: "I'm pretty sure we will get a game in and it just depends how long the game will be."

Worcestershire will be seeking a fourth successive win after last night's five wicket success over Leicestershire Foxes.

They will also be looking to gain revenge for a 29 run defeat at the hands of the Jets in the opening T20 Blast match of the summer.
