Gabriel Determined To “give Everything” To Help County In Battle To Stay Up

Shannon Gabriel is determined to do everything possible to help Worcestershire in their fight to stay in Division One of the LV= County Championship.

The West Indies paceman linked up with the County for the first time yesterday after flying in from the Caribbean.

Gabriel is available for the final two matches of the campaign against Durham away and Middlesex at home and he wants to make a big impact.

The 27-year-old, who will meet his Worcestershire team-mates today, said: "It is a great opportunity to come and play in England again.

"It is the second time. The first time was when I made my debut for the West Indies against England at Lord's (in 2012).

"I want to get used to playing under these kind of conditions.

"I'm going to go out there and give 100 per cent for Worcestershire – and once I give 100 per cent everything else will take care of itself.

"Fast bowling is what I do and I want to do my best and give everything for Worcestershire.

"I am fresh raring to go. I have a Test series coming up soon in Sri Lanka and I've been putting in the work at home and want to continue it here.

"I spoke to Fidel Edwards (currently playing for Hampshire) a few days ago and he told me about English conditions and how to go about things."

Gabriel, who has played in 14 Tests, added: "It is a short spell but I am hoping to make a big impact.

"I know once I back myself with my ability, everything will come out good.

"I heard the conditions at Durham are supposed to favour fast bowlers. If that is the case, it will be good for me and a great opportunity."

Gabriel played against Moeen Ali when on England duty in the West Indies during May and he then featured against Australia the following month ahead of the Ashes.

He said: "I enjoyed playing Mitchell Starc and Mitchell Johnson, it was a great learning opportunity. We have them (Australia) again soon and I will be better equipped."
