Ghaus And Sanderson Shine With The Ball For Seconds

Ghaus And Sanderson Shine With The Ball For Seconds

Worcestershire triallists Adnan Ghaus and Ben Sanderson picked up eight wickets for the Seconds on the opening day of their three-day friendly with Middlesex at Radlett.

Ghaus, who played for Lancashire Seconds earlier this season, returned 5-71 from 16.4 overs in his second apearance for the county.

Former Yorkshire all-rounder Sanderson has been playing for Shropshire this season and he claimed 14 wickets against Cornwall in a recent Minor Counties match at St. Austell.

He finished with 3-31 from 19 overs as Middlesex were bowled out for 205 in 49.4 overs.

Worcestershire reached 120-4 in reply thanks to a fine partnership between Will MacVicar and Brett D'Oliveira.

Worcestershire won the toss elected to field on a damp wicket after a lot of overnight rain.

Ghaus and Sanderson justified the decision to bowl with some excellent opening overs and had Middlesex at 32-3 at the end of the seventh over at which point Ghaus had figures of 3-19.

Sanderson got his reward with a wicket in the 10th over, when only one more run had been added to the score.

A rainstorm in the 15th over lost 31 minutes of play after which Middlesex batsman Oliver Wilkin upped the pace with a few boundaries and took Middlesex into lunch at 65-4.

Wilkin and Nick Gubbins continued to score runs freely after lunch putting on 86 for the fifth wicket before Gubbins was bowled by Ghaus in the 31st over.

It took just 19 more overs and another short rain break to take the last five Middlesex wickets and enabled Ghaus to complete a deserved five wicket haul.

Richard Oliver and Matt Pardoe started positively for Worcestershire but once Ruichard Oliver was bowled in the sixth over, two similar wickets followed in the next five overs as the total slumped to 23-3 at the end of the 11th over.

MacVicar and D’Oliveira then put on 97 for the fourth wicket with D’Oliveira scoring 56 from 81 deliveries including 10 fours before being caught behind in the last over of the day.
