Gidman Praise For Seconds Performances Against Mcc Yc

Second Eleven Coach Alex Gidman praised the performance of the players during four days cricket against a strong MCC Young Cricketers side.

The Seconds maintained their 100 per cent record in the Trophy competition by triumphing over MCC YC – coached by his former Gloucestershire team-mate Steve Kirby – at Merchant Taylor’s School.

It was their third successive win in the competition.

They then recovered from a poor opening session with the ball in the Championship match between the sides at High Wycombe CC to have the better of proceedings over three days in a drawn encounter.

Worcestershire collected a maximum eight bonus points and another five points for sharing the spoils.

Gidman said: “It has been a good week’s cricket for us. I was really impressed with the performance in the 50 over competition.

“It was not an easy scoring ground but we played with discipline and application in all departments and I was really pleased.

“The three day game, we started poorly but reacted really well. After the first session, we really dominated the game but unfortunately it was easier to bat on the final day but again the application was top drawer.

“In that very first session, we didn’t bowl to our capabilities but the lads accepted and recognised that and sorted it out themselves which was great.

“MCC have got some good cricketers with first class experience and they took advantage in that first session but we figured things out and got ourselves back in the game.

“It has been a tough week and they pushed us very hard but we did well. High Wycombe is a quick scoring and small ground and nice for batsmen.”
