GIDMAN SAYS BROWN CALL-UP “MAKES A GOOD YEAR INTO A REALLY GOOD YEAR”

First Team Coach Alex Gidman believes Pat Brown’s T20I call-up by England has made “a good year into a really good year” for Worcestershire.

Brown is taking a deserved break after helping the Rapids make a strong defence of their Vitality Blast title.

But the City Of Worcester University student will soon be switching his focus to preparing for England’s five T20Is in New Zealand next month.

Brown finished as the Rapids leading wicket-taker in the Blast for the second year running and impressed on finals day at Edgbaston.

Gidman feels his international recognition is the icing on the cake for the County in 2019.

He said: “For me Pat getting picked by England makes what was already a good year into a really good year.

“To have another one of our players representing England is very special. We are all very delighted for Pat.

“It is great to have one of the best T20 teams of the past couple of years represented at international level alongside Mo (Moeen Ali).

“It is well deserved and we will all be glued to the box watching him make his debut and take his part in that series.”

Brown followed up his 31 wickets in the Blast last summer with another impressive series of performances.

Gidman also had no fear of Brown suffering from ‘second season syndrome’ because of his nature.

Gidman said: “One of Pat’s strengths is his competitiveness – and he just wouldn’t allow that to happen.”
