Haynes Again Shines With Bat As Malvern College Triumph Over Academy

Skipper Jack Haynes came close to scoring his second century in 24 hours as he led Malvern College to a five wicket win over the visiting Worcestershire Academy.

Haynes, a member of the Worcestershire Academy 2017-2018, had scored his first hundred for Worcestershire Seconds in Tuesday’s Trophy win over Nottinghamshire at Kidderminster.

The Malvern College pupil looked set for a repeat performance as the College chased a 176 target in 40 overs.

He made 85 off 78 balls with 16 boundaries and added 111 for the third wicket with E. Mayell (43) before he fell to Oliver Halion.

Halion also dismissed Mayell and there were three wickets, for Ed Bragg, who made two early breakthroughs, but the College triumphed with 5.4 overs to spare.

Worcestershire Academy had elected to bat and opener Jujhar Johal top-scored with 44 and put on 50 for the first wicket with Will Wade.

After reaching 90-1, wickets fell at regular intervals as the Academy finished on 175-7.

Haynes dismissed Johal and there were two wickets apiece for Jack Catto and Josh Baker.
