Haynes Junior And Clarke Sparkle With Bat In Best Of Bunburys Contest

Worcestershire Academy-Pathway players Jack Haynes and Xavier Clarke sparkled with the bat for the combined Midlands and North side on day one in the 'Best Of The Bunburys' match against the London-South East and South West side at Loughborough.

Haynes opened and scored a fine 63 and then Clarke struck 78 as the Midlands were dismissed for 224 in 81.1 overs after electing to bat.

Their opponents reached 61-2 off 22 overs by the close with another Worcestershire player, paceman Matt Davis, sending down four overs for 12 runs.

The trio were selected as a reward for their performances in the main Under-15s Bunbury Festival last month at Radley College when representing the Midlands.

Haynes, whose elder brother Josh has enjoyed a successful week in the Under-17s Super Fours, struck 11 boundaries in his 108 ball knock before he was fourth out at 95.

His dismissal brought Clarke – younger brother of County batsman Joe – to the middle and he hit nine fours in his 139 delivery innings before he was last out.

He shared in a fifth wicket stand of 68 with D.Mousley (36) but wickets then fell at regular intervals.

Haynes is a member of the County's 2015-2016 Academy intake, Clarke is part of the satellite academy in Shropshire while Davis is involved with the senior development of excellence programme which sits just underneath the academy programme.
